Follow: Contentment

Proverbs 1-31

When we were kids, we couldn’t wait to grow up and be adults. As adults, we long to be free of adult responsibilities like working, paying bills, and fixing stuff when it breaks. When we finally reach retirement, we find our “golden years” dogged by the knowledge that, ultimately, health will run out.

Follow:Living Well in God’s Wisdom

Jesus invited people to follow him.  That meant trusting and obeying on a daily basis.  It also meant growing in wisdom. People who chose to follow Jesus found great joy and amazing grace.  They also found that they needed wisdom to live well.

There is a surprise for anyone who would follow Jesus today.  We are called to grow in wisdom as we follow the Savior.

Psa. 32:9 Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you.

Eph. 5:15-17   Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.  Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

What better place to find wisdom than in the collection of Proverbs found in the Hebrew Scriptures!

Prov. 3:13-15 -- Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold.  She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her.

Good followers of Jesus are growing in wisdom.  Our next series of messages entitled: Follow will guide us through some of the Proverbs collected by King Solomon in century long past.  We will find these principles to be as relevant today as they were then.
